At least three people have been injured after being hit by a runaway horse at the Feria de Abril in Sevilla.

The incident occurred at around 2.15pm on the Puente de Delicias on Wednesday, just outside the fair’s main grounds.

Two of the injured, an 11-month-old baby and a 40-year-old man, had to be evacuated to the Virgen del Rocio Trauma Hospital in the Andalucian capital.

According to ABC, the uncontrolled animal ran over several people before being rescued by professionals from the Sevilla Animal Protection Centre.

Municipal sources also indicate that after the horse was rescued, professionals from the Animal Protection Center took it to the veterinary station, located on Calle Costillares ‘for inspection and preparation of the corresponding report.’

The animal’s documentation ‘is in order,’ the same sources added. The causes of the incident are under investigation.

It came after a young woman claimed she was sexually attacked.

According to the Sevilla City Council, the case is still being investigated and has been referred to the Policia Nacional.

The force ‘will process and manage the investigation and attempt to locate the alleged attacker,’ said the Security Delegate, Ignacio Flores.

No further details about the incident have been released.

This year, for the first time, the City Council has set up so-called ‘safe zones’ to assist women and the LGBTQ+ community.

These points are run by technical staff and Red Cross volunteers to offer support and serve as a liaison with the Local Police and health services.

There are three of them, specifically located at the field hospital (Avenida Alfredo Kraus), the lost children’s shelter (Calle Gitanillo de Triana, 126), and the CECOP shelter (c/ Manolo Vázquez, 11-13).
