Majority of Spain placed under weather alerts for rain, hail and 70km/hr winds

After suffering one of the wettest Marches in history, many in Spain thought the rainy days were behind them.

But the wet weather is set to return this weekend as the majority of the country is placed under alert for heavy downpours and storms.

The warnings have come from state weather agency Aemet.

The deluge began at 9pm Thursday, when the Costa del Sol, Ronda, and parts of Cadiz were issued a yellow advisories for heavy rain and storms.

Forecasters predict up to 15mm of rainfall could fall within an hour. The alerts are in place until 10am Friday.

Elsewhere in Andalucia, yellow alerts cover the entire province of Sevilla between midnight and 6pm Friday.

The province is expected to face 70km/hr winds, storms and up to 15mm of rainfall in an hour.

Also under a rain alert Friday are the entire provinces of Cordoba and Huelva.

Murcia, the Costa Blanca and Valencia’s coast are among the very few to have swerved the warnings.

In Madrid, a yellow alert is in place between 6am and 8pm, and heavy rain could be accompanied by hail.

Dozens of other provinces are under alerts for wind, rain and hail throughout central and northern areas.
