A Belgian tourist has died after falling off his yacht in Alicante marina.

The accident occurred at around 10.20pm on Easter Sunday, although details are only just emerging.

The 69-year-old was holidaying on the Costa Blanca when he fell into the water and drowned.

According to local newspaper TodoAlicante, the holidaymaker hit his head on the edge of the dock.

A German couple who were in a neighbouring yacht heard ‘strange’ groans coming from outside.

They shined a flashlight into the water and saw their friend floating.

The man of the couple jumped into the water and pulled out the Belgian, before the woman began CPR.

Despite their best efforts, the man could no be revived. Police have certified the death as accidental.

According to reports, CCTV footage from the dock showed the yacht owner struggling to walk before he fell.

His German friend told police that he ‘smelled strongly of alcohol’ when he was pulled out of the water.

The body was recovered by forensic at 12.45am on Monday.
