Estepona town hall has announced the construction of a brand new sports centre.

The local council is officially accepting bids for a contract that will include the construction and managing of the site.

The earmarked plot is on Avenida Puerta del Mar, at the back of the seaside town.

The land measures 11,150sqm and must feature a 25x25m heated indoor swimming pool, and optionally, a children’s pool.

A statement by the Ayuntamiento de Estepona on Monday said the pool must also have seating for 200 people.

It said: ‘In addition, the complex will include at least six racquetball courts, at least four for padel tennis and two for tennis.

‘It will also include an outdoor space for other sports or activities, including at least two petanque (a type of boules) courts.’

It added: ‘The building must house restrooms, changing rooms, offices and service areas, and optionally recreation and meeting rooms, classrooms for theoretical classes, a gym, a sporting goods store, and food and beverage facilities.’

The town hall said parking must also be built on the site, with a minimum of 40 spaces.
