Adverse weather has once again disrupted rail services in Andalucia.
Renfe was forced to introduce road replacement transport on Friday after flooding and a small landslide affected tracks in Cordoba province.
According to sources at Adif, rail traffic was suspended at 3.47am on the Cordoba–Linares–Baeza line, specifically between the towns of Villa del Rio and Montoro.
The decision was taken after water accumulation was detected on the tracks and a retaining wall suffered a landslide, making the section unsafe for trains.
The suspension has forced a reorganisation of services to maintain passenger mobility on one of eastern Andalucia’s key regional rail corridors.
A similar incident in Gelida (Barcelona) earlier this week resulted in the death of a young trainee train driver from Sevilla.
As a result of the disruption, Renfe has implemented several contingency measures:
- Media Distancia (Regional) services are being replaced by buses between Cordoba and Jaen.
- Proximidad (Local) services are operating with replacement buses between Cordoba and Alcolea.
Renfe said the measures were introduced to minimise disruption while engineers assess the damage and work to restore normal rail operations.
The rail operator has apologised for the inconvenience caused and said passengers are being kept informed via its usual customer service and communication channels.
