Spain mocks British tourists with ‘guiri starter pack’ – so how many cliches are YOU guilty of?

Spaniards have praised a meme describing the stereotypical British tourist as ‘hilarious’ and ‘amazingly realistic’.

Using AI, the @Spainsays and @postureoespañol Instagram pages put some of the most popular cliches about Brits into an imaginary ‘guiri starter pack’.

In Spanish, ‘guiri’ is a slang word used to mostly describe British tourists, and sometimes holidaymakers from northern Europe and the USA.

Its use can be seen as disrespectful depending on the tone and intention of the person saying it, although it is mostly used lightheartedly.

According to the ‘Guiri in Spain Starter Pack’, the average British tourist has strawberry Blonde or ginger hair and is sunburnt on their face and shoulders.

They walk round in sandals and socks and have a thing for floral, short-sleeved shirts and brown cargo shorts.

They also like to shout ‘oleee!’ and drink pints of beer, while walking around with a camera.

A pair of big black sunglasses was also included as a typical trait, alongside a pan of cooked paella.

While the paella may look typical to non-Spaniards, there is actually something very wrong with it in the eyes of locals.

Writing at the bottom of the pack explains: ‘Includes the firm conviction that paella come with chorizo.’

Famous British chef Jamie Oliver famously caused international outrage when he included the sausage meat in his own paella recipe back in 2016.

Commenting on the meme, one Spaniard joked: ‘And why does that guiri drink beer? Where is the sangria?’

Another replied: ‘Or even a gin and tonic?!’, while one said it needed to include Benidorm.
