Almost 10 cars have been broken into by thieves looking to steal V16 beacons.
The raid took place in a private underground car park in the La Victoria district of Malaga city in the early hours of Wednesday (January 14).
The suspects broke into at least seven cars by smashing their windows and windscreens – although residents claim the total number was nine.
All of the vehicles bar one had their V16 beacons and garage remote controls stolen.
Residents told Diario Sur they believe the one vehicle was spared because the emergency beacon was not clearly visible.
Locals believe the perpetrators may have gained access by slipping into the garage after a resident entered, before carrying out the break-ins.
The owners discovered the damage later that day, finding windows and windscreens completely shattered and the interiors of their vehicles ransacked.
The suspects also reportedly attempted to steal a motorcycle but abandoned it a short distance from its parking space.
The owner believes they may have given up after failing to deactivate the alarm, in order to avoid drawing attention as they fled.
The Policia Nacional has launched an investigation.
