The alleged hitman behind the double assassination of two Scottish gangsters has been moved to a Malaga prison.

Michael Terrence Riley, 45, is accused of gunning down Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr at an Irish bar in Fuengirola on June 1.

It was revealed overnight that he has been transferred to Alhaurin de la Torre prison, as he continues to await trial.

Judicial sources have confirmed that on November 13 a judge at Fuengirola’s Court of First Instance and Investigation No. 2 formally upheld Riley’s remand in custody, without bail.

The Brit is being investigated on two counts of murder and gave evidence by video link from prison.

During the extradition process – which Riley agreed to in early October and which was completed by UK authorities on 15 October – he was held at Soto del Real prison near Madrid, as is standard in such cases.

Riley was arrested in Liverpool on June 13, less than two weeks after the double shooting in Fuengirola.

Spanish police believe the killings were linked to an ongoing feud between two major organised crime clans from Glasgow.

The victims, Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr., were allegedly associated with the Lyons clan, while Riley is described by the Policía Nacional as an ‘internal figure’ within the rival Daniels group.

According to investigators, Riley travelled deliberately to the Costa del Sol after learning that both victims would be watching the Champions League final on the night of June 1 at Monaghan’s Irish Pub, then located on Fuengirola’s seafront and packed with customers.

Days after the arrest, the Policia Nacional highlighted what they described as the professionalism of the gunman during a major press conference.

After shooting his first target on the terrace, the weapon reportedly malfunctioned.

Police said this did not prevent the suspect from continuing the attack, as he followed the second victim inside the pub and killed him there.

‘This is not something a normal killer would usually be capable of,’ police said, noting the suspect’s ability to overcome the weapon failure and pursue the second target inside the premises.
