A series of weather alerts for heavy rain and winds have been issued for Andalucia on Friday.

The warnings, from state weather agency Aemet, cover parts of Huelva, Cadiz, Malaga, Granada and Almeria.

The coast of Huelva will be under yellow alerts throughout Friday, with up to 15mm of rain expected in one hour, and 60mm over 12 hours.

The alert runs from 6am to to 5.59pm on Friday. The expected totals could bring brief flooding in low-lying areas and difficult driving conditions on coastal roads.

The ‘Estrecho’ region of Cadiz is the only area under an orange alert – meaning significant risk – due to heavy rainfall.

Aemet is warning of up to 100m of rainfall in 12 hours and up to 20mm in an hour.

The worst conditions are expected between 8pm and midnight, especially around Algeciras, Tarifa and nearby inland areas.

The Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce region, including Malaga city, Marbella and surrounding areas, will sit under a yellow alert for rainfall, with up to 40mm expected in 12 hours.

The alert window is between 12pm and 11.59pm.

The yellow alert is not life-threatening but could mean persistent rain through the afternoon and evening, with the risk of slippery roads and localised pooling of water.

Elsewhere, the coasts of Granada and Almeria are on a yellow alert for rough seas between 7pm and midnight on Friday – with Aemet warning of three-metre waves and tough sea conditions.
