At least three people were arrested in the province of Castellon after the Policia Nacional feared they were preparing to carry out an attack.

The suspects had allegedly formed a cell linked to The Base, a clandestine white-supremacist organisation designated as a terrorist group in several countries.

The suspected ringleader in Spain has been remanded in custody.

The trio are being investigated on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organisation, recruiting and indoctrinating new members, terrorist training and illegal possession of weapons.

Radicalised cell was ‘ready to carry out attacks’

The investigation began in early 2025 when counter-terrorism officers tracked a man whose online activity suggested a high level of radicalisation in line with The Base’s extremist ideology.

As surveillance advanced, investigators uncovered a tightly knit three-man cell whose members had allegedly structured their daily lives around the group’s violent doctrine.

Police said the suspects had already carried out tactical training sessions using paramilitary techniques and equipment, and that they had openly expressed willingness to commit attacks.

Investigators also found that the men were active on social media, where they allegedly attempted to recruit sympathisers, praised violent actions by other extremist groups and circulated incendiary propaganda.

In recent months, the group’s rhetoric had reportedly hardened, with explicit calls for ‘violent action’ and claims that they were prepared to carry out ‘selective attacks’ in support of their cause.

Links to founder of The Base

Police said the alleged cell leader had been in direct contact with the founder of The Base, who last month issued an online call encouraging international cells to consolidate and execute targeted attacks aimed at destabilising Western democratic institutions.

Combined with evidence of weapons stockpiling, this prompted officers to launch a pre-dawn operation last Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of the three suspects.

Weapons and neo-Nazi material seized

Five property searches took place across Castellon province. Officers seized nine weapons, including two firearms, ammunition, more than 20 knives, a large quantity of tactical and military gear allegedly used for training and documentation and digital material linked to accelerationist and supremacist ideology.

Police also recovered propaganda associated with The Base and other neo-Nazi paraphernalia.

The operation was directed by Spain’s National Court, with support from the General Information Commissariat and the Castellon provincial information brigade.

Europol provided analytical assistance during the investigation.

The National Court’s Central Investigating Court No. 6 is continuing the inquiry and has ordered the alleged ringleader into prison custody.

What is The Base?

The Base, founded in 2018, promotes the pursuit of white supremacy through violent means.

The group encourages the creation of small, decentralised paramilitary cells trained to prepare for what its members describe as a future ‘race war’.

Its doctrine blends militant accelerationism with clandestine survivalism, and authorities in several countries have linked its followers to attempted terror plots.
