At least eight people have been injured after a suspected boat explosion in Fuengirola.

The vessel was filmed in flames near the resort’s port at around 12pm on Saturday.

At least three of the injured are reported to be in a serious condition.

Video footage shared online showed a large column of smoke billowing into the sky near to the port.

Locals commenting on the clip claimed the explosion ‘was even heard from Benalmadena.’

Another said: ‘I live in Fuengirola port and it shook the house, obviously I thought it was an explosion.’

The cause of the incident remains unknown.

Emergency medical teams on jet skis and firefighters were seen racing towards the vessel.

A total of eight people were on board. All were taken away to be treated by medical services.

The boat sank and officials from the Andalucian Port Agency are closely monitoring the situation to assess the implementation of anti-spill measures.

The identities of those affected have not been released.
