On Saturday, a weak front will sweep across northern Spain but will not touch Andalucia, where skies will remain clear and temperatures will again climb into the 32–34C range along the Guadalquivir valley.

In parts of Malaga province, the arrival of terral winds could push the mercury to 35C, public forecaster Aemet predicts.

On Sunday, the outlook stays the same, with sunny skies and highs of around 33C in Sevilla and Cordoba, with much of the region basking in what feels more like late summer than autumn.

What is the ‘terral’?

The terral wind is a distinctive feature of Malaga’s coastline. Blowing down from the mountains towards the sea, it arrives hot and dry, often sending temperatures soaring well above those in neighbouring coastal areas.

Unlike Malaga, most of Andalucia is more influenced by sea breezes or the Levante and Poniente winds.

Looking ahead

Aemet said next week should remain warm and dry for the season, with only the north and east of Spain at risk of brief showers.

Across Andalucia, the unusually summery weather looks set to continue well into October.
