The body of a young man has been recovered from the Guadalquivir River in Sevilla.

The tragic discovery was made on Monday afternoon following an intensive operation led by emergency services.

The search began around 1pm, after a witness alerted 112 Andalucia that a man had jumped into the river in the Plaza de Armas area.

According to reports, two other people also entered the water in an attempt to rescue him.

The response involved personnel from the 061 Health Emergency Centre and the Sevilla Fire Department, who deployed a rescue boat and diving equipment.

Officers from the Guardia Civil, Policia Nacional local police were also dispatched to the scene.

Search teams combed both the riverbed and the riverbank, focusing on the area near the bus station dock.

As a precaution, the Port Authority temporarily suspended river traffic between Torre del Oro and San Jeronimo, notifying nautical clubs and cruise operators of the closure.

The young man’s body was eventually recovered and transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for identification.

Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
