Most trains between Sevilla and Malaga will be suspended this weekend as infrastructure works continue between Utrera and Pedrera stations.

According to Spain’s rail infrastructure manager Adif, from Friday, August 22, to Sunday, August 24, all Medium Distance (Media Distancia) trains running between the two cities will be replaced by road transport.

Renfe will deploy a fleet of 102 buses to cover the affected route, including all intermediate stops except for Bobadilla and El Chorro-Caminito del Rey.

According to a notice issued by Renfe, the measure affects 34 trains scheduled over the three days – 12 on Friday, 10 on Saturday, and 12 on Sunday.

Alternative transport will include buses, taxis, and Cercanias commuter trains, depending on the passenger’s departure and destination stations.

Bus departures and intermediate stops

Buses from Sevilla will leave from Santa Justa station, while those from Malaga will depart from Maria Zambrano. They will serve all intermediate stops along the route except for Bobadilla and El Chorro-Caminito del Rey.

Passengers traveling to or from these two unserved stations will need to transfer by taxi from Antequera.

Cercanias services for local stops

Passengers using Bellavista, Virgen del Rocio, Alora, and Las Mellizas stations will need to use Cercanías or Proximidad services to connect with other points on the network. These stations will not be directly served by the replacement buses.

In Sevilla province, travelers needing access to Santa Justa, Dos Hermanas, or San Bernardo will also need to connect via Cercanias trains. The same applies to travellers from Alora and Las Mellizas in Malaga province.

Taxi transfers for isolated stations

For those traveling to or from El Chorro-Caminito and Bobadilla, Renfe will provide taxi transfers to or from Antequera:

  • Passengers heading from Sevilla to El Chorro or Bobadilla will take a bus to Antequera, then a taxi to their final destination.
  • Passengers starting at El Chorro or Bobadilla bound for Sevilla will first take a taxi to Antequera, then continue by bus.
  • Those traveling between Malaga and El Chorro will complete the full journey by taxi.
  • Travelers going from Málaga to Bobadilla will ride a bus to Antequera and continue by taxi. The reverse route follows the same structure.

Customer information

Renfe says it has reinforced its communication channels to ensure passengers are informed of the changes. Updates are being shared through station and onboard announcements, as well as online and via ticketing systems.

Timetables and full details of the alternative services are available on the Renfe website.
