Eight people have been killed on Spanish roads since the big summer getaway began on Friday.

According to the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT), two fatal accidents occurred on Saturday, bringing the death toll to eight in the first three days of its special operation, which ends at midnight tonight.

The latest fatal crash took place early on Sunday morning on the A-62 near the municipality of Sancti Spiritus (Salamanca), in which a 32-year-old woman died after the vehicle she was traveling in left the road.

The 112 Castilla y Leon Emergency Service reported that four people were also injured, including a five-month-old baby. All the injured were taken to a hospital in Salamanca.

In Marin, Pontevedra, a motorcyclist died after crashing head on with a car on the EP-1202 at around 6pm on Saturday.

On Friday, a total of six deaths were recorded, while four other people were injured, two of whom remain in a serious condition.

One of Friday’s most serious accidents was on the A-7 highway in Nijar, Almeria, which left one person dead and four injured.

Another person died on Saturday in Villaralbo (Zamora) after the car in which they were traveling crashed into a tree and caught fire.
