A family holiday on the Costa del Sol almost ended in tragedy on Monday morning after five members of a Norwegian family were swept into difficulty off the coast of Fuengirola.
The incident unfolded just before 11am at Torreblanca beach, near the popular Madrid Playa beach bar, where the family had been swimming.
According to sources close to the case, several family members began struggling to return to shore, triggering an urgent emergency response.
Despite the official beach patrol shift beginning at 11am, lifeguards were quick to react.

Members of the City Council’s rescue unit dove into the water moments after arriving and swam out to recover the five individuals, among them a father and one of his sons – both of whom were reported to be in a critical state.
