Marbella is set to welcome yet another luxury development following the announcement of a massive beachfront resort led by Sierra Blanca Estates and Platinum Estates.

The companies have teamed up in a joint venture to launch what they describe as the first mixed-use luxury ‘macroresort’ on the Costa del Sol.

The project will occupy 160,000sqm on the front line of Las Dunas Club Marbella, making it the largest seafront resort in the region to date.

It will include 180 branded residences and 150 hotel rooms, alongside upscale restaurants, wellness centres, cinemas, beach clubs and other leisure facilities.

All residences will offer direct sea views, large terraces, and access to five-star hotel services.

Owners will also have the option to have their homes operated by the hotel brand, effectively blurring the line between private residence and serviced suite.

While developers claim the resort will bring a new level of international prestige to Marbella, the announcement comes at a time when many locals and long-time residents are expressing concern over the unrelenting wave of luxury developments, which they feel are pricing people out and transforming the town’s character.

One local commented online: ‘Fewer hotels and more schools and hospitals! Marbella needs more services and infrastructure, less tourists and trash!

‘Marbella, wake up from your slumber, they’re taking your land!’

Another said: ‘Let’s see where they’re going to find the staff… They’re going to destroy everything, all for money.’

Harry Mohinani, CEO of Platinum Estates, described the deal as a ‘strategic alliance’ and highlighted Sierra Blanca’s experience with high-end brands like Dolce & Gabbana and Fendi Casa.

He said the yet-to-be-announced hotel brand behind the project would align with ‘international luxury values.’

Carlos Rodríguez, CEO of Sierra Blanca Estates, said the development would ‘reshape Marbella’s position as a top-tier residential and tourist destination in Europe,’ and claimed it would set a new benchmark not just for the Costa del Sol but for the Mediterranean coast as a whole.

Still, critics may view this as another symbol of the region’s ongoing shift towards ultra-wealthy tourism and property speculation, in a town already saturated with five-star resorts, high-end real estate, and exclusive beach clubs.

Construction timelines and further project details, including the hotel partner, are expected to be announced in the coming months.
