A man has died in a tragic early-hours crash on the Costa del Sol after a lorry collided with a car on the A-7 near Nerja.
The accident happened at around 1.30am on Saturday in the direction of Malaga, according to the Agencia de Emergencias de Andalucia.
Initial reports suggest the car was stationary on the hard shoulder when it was struck by the lorry.
Emergency calls alerted services to a person trapped inside the vehicle, prompting a major response.
Firefighters, Guardia Civil officers, road maintenance crews and paramedics were all dispatched to the scene.
However, despite their efforts, medics were only able to confirm the death of the driver.
Fire crews had to cut the victim free from the wreckage.
No further details about the victim have yet been released.
Authorities are now working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
