The mystery surrounding the disappearance and murder of a young Albanian man on the Costa del Sol has been solved, police say.
Miklovan Dakaj, 20, was last seen alive on May 13, 2025 in Marbella. His ex-partner reported him missing shortly after to the Policia Nacional, triggering an investigation that quickly focused on a suspected kidnapping linked to organised crime.
Months later, in October, a Polish camper stumbled upon a large plastic bag near the Casasola reservoir in Almogía, Malaga.
Inside were Dakaj’s remains, bound and dumped in what investigators believe was a calculated execution, reports La Razon.
The final movements
According to the initial report, Dakaj had been at a restaurant in Puerto Banus on May 12 when he told his ex-partner he was heading to meet ‘friends’ at another venue in Malaga.
He believed he was being offered work as a bodyguard, but around 90 minutes later, he vanished.
His BMW X6 was later found still parked at the restaurant, raising immediate concerns.
The key breakthrough
The investigation was taken over by organised crime officers, who began piecing together his final hours.
Security footage then revealed a rented Peugeot 208 waiting at the restaurant before Dakaj arrived.
The vehicle had been hired in Barcelona just days earlier under the name of a 59-year-old woman.
Further footage showed Dakaj getting into the car alongside three suspects, all now central to the case.

Among them were two Albanian nationals, identified as Ilir J. and Indrit G., along with the woman linked to the rental.
Tracked to the dump site
While cameras lost track of the vehicle at one point, investigators were able to place it near the reservoir using mobile signal data.
According to a court ruling, the car’s telemetry connected it to phone masts covering the exact area where the body was later found.
Phone monitoring and physical surveillance were also key in building the case.
A judge in Malaga has since ordered Ilir J. to be held in custody without bail, while Indrit G. was released on €25,000 bail.
A killing in a growing war
While police have not officially confirmed the motive, sources suggest the murder is linked to a settling of scores within organised crime circles.

The case comes amid rising violence on the Costa del Sol, where rival gangs – increasingly involved in high-profit cocaine trafficking – are clashing more frequently.
Shootings in Marbella have surged in recent years, taking place in nightclubs, gyms and even on major roads.
Authorities say criminal groups are becoming more heavily armed, with military-grade weapons such as AK-47s appearing more often.
A wider warning
Although Dakaj was not killed in a shooting, investigators believe his death reflects the same escalating brutality.
What began as a missing persons case has now exposed the mechanics of a suspected gangland execution – from luring the victim under false pretences, to transporting him across the province, and finally dumping his body in a remote location.
