A person seriously injured in the deadly explosion at a bar in Almeria has been transferred to hospital in Sevilla as the investigation into the blast continues.
The victim, who suffered severe burns in the incident at La Posada bar – located near the city’s bullring – has been moved to the Hospital Virgen del Rocio for specialised treatment, health sources confirmed on Thursday.
The explosion, which took place at around 5.20pm on Holy Wednesday, left one man dead and three others injured.
Emergency services were inundated with calls reporting a loud blast, believed to have been caused by a gas leak, which triggered a fire and caused part of the building’s façade to collapse.
According to officials, there were two explosions – one inside the cafe itself and another in an adjoining garage on Calle Alfarerias.
An 81-year-old man died as a result of the incident, while three others were hurt.
Two of the injured were initially taken to the Hospital Universitario Torrecardenas – one with serious burns, now transferred to Sevilla, and another suffering smoke inhalation who has since been discharged.
A third injured person was treated at the nearby Plaza de Toros health centre.
A major emergency response was launched, with firefighters, Local Police, paramedics and Policia Nacional units all deployed to the scene.
Specialist teams including forensic officers, bomb disposal experts and economic crime investigators were also involved as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
