This is the moment a would-be machete robber was laughed out of a bar when staff and customers mistook the hold-up for a prank.
The bizarre incident unfolded at La Barraca de la Abuela at around 5pm, when a man wearing a motorcycle helmet walked in and headed straight for the bar.
Moments later, he pulled out a large machete.
Video footage shows the moment the man slammed the blade down twice on the counter before demanding cash in English: ‘The money, money, money – now.’
But instead of panic, he got laughter, as the server behind the bar can be heard chuckling away.
The barman and two customers barely reacted – even as the weapon was waved just inches from them – convinced it was a joke by a regular they had been chatting to minutes earlier.
One customer even mocked him: ‘The money now? Shall we call the police?’
At one point, the situation became even more surreal.
The barman grabbed the machete and joked that it was blunt, telling the would-be robber the knife was defective.
Faced with zero fear, growing ridicule and a completely uncooperative audience, the attacker appeared to lose his nerve and walked out empty handed.
Staff later admitted they didn’t even report the incident at first because they genuinely believed it hadn’t been a real robbery.
Only later did they realise the seriousness of the situation after hearing of a similar attempted hold-up at a nearby burger restaurant, also caught on CCTV, where the victims did alert police.
The suspect remains at large.
