Holidaymakers travelling this Semana Santa are being warned to expect delays and disruption at some of Spain’s busiest airports, including in Andalucia.
Unions CCOO, UGT and USO have called strike action among ground handling staff, coinciding with one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
The industrial action begins on Friday of Sorrows (Viernes de Dolores) on March 27, and will take the form of partial stoppages three days a week.
With thousands of travellers expected to pass through airports at the start of Easter, the timing is likely to have a significant impact.
Passengers could face delays at check-in, boarding disruptions and possible flight delays.
Ground handling staff play a key role in airport operations, including baggage handling and aircraft turnaround, meaning even limited strikes can cause knock-on effects across schedules.
Unions and employers are due to meet again on Wednesday for a conciliation hearing, as disagreements continue over pay conditions.
However, at this stage, no agreement has been reached.
Passengers are being urged to check their flight’s status regularly and arrive at the airport earlier than usual.
If possible, it is advisable to travel with hand luggage only.
