A driver was arrested near Malaga Airport on Friday moments after being prevented from taking his own life, it has emerged.
Officers were called to the MA-23 access road at around 9.45am following reports of a suspicious vehicle parked beneath an overpass.
When they arrived, they discovered a hose had been connected from the exhaust into the vehicle, creating a life-threatening situation for the driver inside.
Officers forced entry into the car and removed the man, preventing what could have ended in tragedy.
The incident took an unexpected turn after the rescue, however, as officers realised there was an outstanding arrest warrant issued by a Malaga court.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to a police station, where proceedings were initiated, including in relation to the incident itself.
Police highlighted the role of members of the public, whose call to emergency services triggered the response.
Those who raised the alarm also returned to the scene and assisted as witnesses.
