The Iranian military has issued a chilling warning for tourism destinations around the world amid the ongoing war with the US and Israel.
Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi said on Friday that it has updated its potential targets to include ‘recreational areas, leisure centres and tourist desitnations’ frequented by American and Israeli citizens.
The threat was issued in response to the deaths of key figures in the country’s leadership in recent weeks, including the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and, more recently, National Security Secretary Ali Larijan
Shekarchi said: ‘The assassinations of officers and authorities in this country, as well as a number of commanders of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, do not demonstrate the enemy’s power but are rooted in their desperation and malice.’
He blasted the ‘cowardly attacks’ before warning that US and Israeli commanders, along with their ‘malicious pilots and troops’ are now being monitored by Iranian forces and their ‘firm determination to continue launching attacks that will crush their enemies.’
Speaking to Iranian state television, he added that with the intelligence gathered by Tehran, leisure areas and tourist destinations ‘around the world’ will no longer be ‘safe for enemies.’
The message could understandably be seen as a threat to Spain, where millions of Americans and Israelis visit each year.
In the first half of 2025 alone, more than 2.5million Americans came to Spain for a holiday.
Iran is notoriously the biggest state exporter and sponsor of terrorism in the world.
While its capabilities have certainly been severely weakened following the US-Israeli invasion, its regime – now even more hardline – remains firmly in place.
There is no suggestion that Spain has become a specific target for Iran or its network of non-state actors, but the fact the country hosts millions of Americans each year could spark concerns.
