King Felipe VI has held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Zarzuela Palace during the Ukrainian leader’s latest visit to Spain.
The meeting marks the fourth time Zelensky has travelled to the country since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, underlining the strengthening ties between Madrid and Kyiv.
Zelensky first visited Spain in October 2023 to attend the European Political Community summit in Granada.
He returned in May 2024 for an official visit, during which he was received by King Felipe VI at Madrid-Barajas airport before holding further talks at the Royal Palace.
The Spanish monarch and Queen Letizia also hosted a formal lunch in his honour.
His most recent trip before this week came in November 2025, when he held a working meeting with the King, also at Zarzuela.
The latest meeting brought together senior representatives from both countries.
On the Spanish side, attendees included Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Diego Martinez Belio and Spain’s ambassador to Ukraine, Ricardo Lopez-Armada.
They were joined by senior Ukrainian officials, including Sergiy Kyslytsya, first deputy head of the Office of the President, and Igor Zhovkva, deputy head of the same office.
The repeated visits aim to show Spain’s growing diplomatic and political engagement with Ukraine, as European countries continue to coordinate their response to the ongoing war.
The meeting at Zarzuela follows wider talks between Zelensky and Spain’s government, reinforcing cooperation at both state and institutional levels.
