A Ryanair flight from Malaga to Dublin was forced to divert on Monday morning due to a medical emergency, it has emerged.
Flight FR7045 had departed from the Costa del Sol and was scheduled to land in the Irish capital around midday.
However, the plane ultimately touched down in Madrid instead.
According to Spain’s air traffic controllers, the diversion was triggered after the crew alerted authorities that one of the passengers required ‘urgent medical attention’.
At the time, the aircraft was already flying over the north of the Iberian Peninsula when the decision was made to change course.
Controllers coordinated with Madrid airport to arrange immediate medical assistance, while the plane altered its route ‘as efficiently as possible’ to reach the capital quickly.
No more information has been revealed about the nature of the medical emergency.
The identity or nationality of the affected passenger has not been reported.
