Seville’s Santa Justa railway station is set to undergo its largest renovation in more than 15 years, with works worth over €5 million planned across two separate projects.
The largest contract, valued at more than €4 million, will focus on modernising the station’s lighting system and improving the remote management of access points, ramps, lifts and escalators.
The works will also include the refurbishment and upgrading of the station’s exclusive VIP Sala Club lounge, with a separate contract worth €704,315.
The tender, published by the state-owned company Renfe Viajeros, aims to renovate and adapt the space to offer a higher-quality service for travellers.
According to Sevilla minister Francisco Toscano, the project is designed to improve the experience ‘especially for those passengers who frequently use medium- and long-distance rail services.’
Outdated facilities to be modernised
Santa Justa currently has a Sala Club located in the station’s main hall. The lounge covers around 263 square metres and can accommodate up to 68 passengers.
However, according to the project documents, the space was built more than 15 years ago and its furniture, equipment and layout have become outdated and deteriorated over time.
The refurbishment aims to modernise the lounge and align it with Renfe’s updated design already introduced at other stations, while also reorganising the layout to increase capacity and improve comfort for frequent travellers.

New design and larger capacity
Under the new plans, the redesigned lounge will be able to host up to 116 people, with additional space for two people waiting and two staff attending the service desk.
The entrance to the Sala Club will remain in the station’s main hall, although the layout will need to work around three existing cash machines that cannot be relocated elsewhere in the station.
The exterior façade and entrance will follow the same design and branding used in Renfe’s other lounge spaces across Spain.
Inside, the reception desk will be adapted to ensure accessibility for people with reduced mobility or disabilities.
Improved facilities for passengers
The project also includes upgrades to several areas of the lounge, including the reception zone, bar and coffee service, seating areas, meeting and work spaces, and accessible public toilets.
Additional features will include areas for newspapers and magazines, Renfe information screens, storage rooms and staff facilities.
A catering counter, meeting tables, reception desk and various seating arrangements will also be installed as part of the new interior design.
The coffee and bar area will be located near the main entrance and reception desk, while the service and storage spaces will be positioned nearby, including a work area, shelving and access to a refrigeration unit.
Lighting and ceiling design will also be upgraded, with indirect lighting integrated into new ceiling structures to create a more comfortable environment for passengers using the lounge.
