A man has been arrested in Puerto Banus after allegedly fleeing from a police checkpoint and leading officers on a dangerous pursuit along the Costa del Sol.
The suspect, whose age has not been disclosed, was stopped by officers from the Policia Nacional at a checkpoint in Cancelada.
When asked to present his documentation, the driver admitted he did not have a licence.
According to reports from La Opinion de Malaga, the officers instructed the man – who was driving a Volkswagen Golf – to pull over in a nearby area.
However, instead of complying, he allegedly carried out a manoeuvre that put officers at risk before speeding away from the checkpoint at around 11pm.
The man then fled along the A-7 motorway in the direction of Marbella, with police in pursuit.
The chase continued for several kilometres until the suspect entered Puerto Banus, reportedly driving directly towards the El Corte Ingles shopping centre.
There, the driver abandoned the vehicle in a loading and unloading area before attempting to hide inside the shopping centre.
Security staff at the establishment alerted police, and the man was quickly located and detained by officers who had followed him to the area.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect already has a previous record related to road safety offences, including being caught driving without a licence.
He now faces further charges following the attempted escape and the risk allegedly posed to other motorists during the pursuit.
