The Vox party is demanding a crackdown on caravans and motorhomes on the Costa del Sol.
Specifically, the hard-right party’s municipal group in Fuengirola has submitted a motion calling for urgent measures to tackle the prolonged parking of such vehicles.
It follows an increase in complaints from residents who say there are fewer and fewer parking spaces, particularly around the Recinto Ferial.
According to Vox, there are concerns about the continuous presence of these vehicles on public roads, where they are often parked for days or even weeks at a time.
Neighbours also claim some are causing disturbances in various parts of the municipality.
Vox councillors say the issue had already been raised previously with the local government, which at the time promised to study possible solutions.
However, the party claims that the measures announced have not yet been implemented and that the situation continues to affect neighbourhood coexistence and the normal use of public space.
The group said the rise of motorhome tourism across Europe and Spain has increased the number of these vehicles travelling through many towns, particularly coastal areas with strong tourist appeal.
According to Vox, this growth has forced many local authorities to update regulations to manage the activity and minimise its impact.
In Fuengirola’s case, the party argues that the problem is intensified by the town’s particular urban characteristics, including its high population density, limited land area and the significant tourist pressure it experiences for much of the year.
These factors, they say, worsen parking shortages and traffic issues.
Vox councillor Pedro Dominguez said many residents are frustrated by a situation that he claims occurs repeatedly, with caravans settling for long periods around the Recinto Ferial, affecting the availability of parking and everyday mobility in the area.
Through the motion, the party will ask the council to take action to address the problem, adapt the affected areas and introduce measures that ensure the normal use of parking spaces and smoother traffic flow.
