A Polish man is accused of stealing a minibus in Marbella before crashing it into the AP-7 toll barrier while high on drink and drugs.
According to the Guardia Civil, the driver was also found to have no driving licence and tested positive for both alcohol and drugs when stopped by officers.
The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday, March 11, when the suspect reportedly stole the vehicle while it was parked and empty of passengers.
Authorities believe the man drove the minibus for several hours before the journey ended in a crash on the motorway.
The vehicle slammed into the toll barrier at the Marbella exit of the AP-7 at around 7.30am, causing damage to both the toll infrastructure and the minibus.
Fortunately, no other people were injured in the incident.
Breathalyser and drug tests carried out at the scene returned positive results.
The suspect was arrested and later taken to the Costa del Sol Hospital for medical treatment.
Investigators are now trying to determine how the minibus was stolen and the route the driver took before the crash occurred.
