A person has died and three others have been injured after a serious three-car pile-up on a road in Cadiz province.
The accident happened around 2pm on Sunday on the A-396 road near Vejer, in the La Janda area.
Emergency services were first alerted after witnesses reported a collision between two cars at kilometre 21 of the route.
But moments later the situation worsened dramatically when a third vehicle slammed into the crashed cars, turning the scene into a major accident.
Witnesses told emergency operators that several people were injured and at least two were trapped inside the vehicles.
Firefighters from Benalup-Casas Viejas and Medina Sidonia stations rushed to the scene alongside paramedics and Guardia Civil traffic officers.
Six firefighters and three emergency vehicles took part in the rescue operation.
Crews worked to cut two people free from the wreckage, but sadly one of the victims was already dead when rescuers reached them.

Paramedics from the 061 emergency health service, who even deployed a medical helicopter, later confirmed the fatality.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the person who died.
Three other people injured in the crash were taken to hospital for treatment.
Traffic officers and road maintenance teams also attended the scene to secure the area and clear the damaged vehicles.
The road was partially disrupted while emergency crews carried out the rescue and recovery operation.
The A-396 is a secondary road linking several towns in Cadiz province, and traffic returned to normal once the wreckage was removed.
Authorities are now investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
