Two people have been arrested in Cadiz after police discovered a loaded rifle hidden inside their car during a routine patrol.
Officers from the Policia Nacional stopped the vehicle on Avenida Sanidad Publica after noticing the driver behaving suspiciously when he spotted the patrol car.
According to police, the driver appeared to make an evasive manoeuvre in an attempt to avoid the officers, prompting them to pull the vehicle over and identify the occupants.
When officers checked police databases, they discovered the driver was wanted under an active court order and was allegedly breaching restraining measures issued by a judge.
During a search of the driver, police also found a knife among his belongings.
But the most serious discovery came when officers inspected the car itself.
Inside the boot of the vehicle, partially hidden under plastic bags, police found a .308 bolt-action rifle.
The weapon was loaded and ready for use, according to police sources.

Due to the potential danger posed by the firearm, officers immediately arrested both adults travelling in the car on suspicion of illegal weapons possession.
The suspects were taken to police stations where they were informed of their rights.
The rifle and other items seized have been placed at the disposal of the courts, while investigators continue working to determine where the weapon came from and why it was being transported through the city.
