Food will take centre stage in one of Cadiz province’s most charming towns as Alcala de los Gazules prepares to celebrate a major anniversary with a unique gastronomic event.
This year the town is replacing its traditional Tapas Fair with ‘Sabores de 1876’, a special food festival marking 150 years since it was granted city status.
The title was awarded in 1876 by King Alfonso XII, and the new event aims to transport visitors back to that era through local cuisine and historical atmosphere.
The celebration will take place on March 13, 14 and 15 in Parque Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente.
During the three-day event, nine local bars and restaurants will each serve two tapas inspired by flavours and traditions from 1876, creating a total of 18 different dishes for visitors to try.
But it won’t just be about food.
Organisers say the festival will also feature live music, children’s activities, entertainment and themed decorations to recreate the atmosphere of the late 19th century.
The event is designed to celebrate the town’s history while supporting local hospitality businesses and attracting visitors to the picturesque Cádiz municipality.
The celebration comes at a special moment for the town, which has recently been named a ‘Most Magical Town in Andalucia 2026’ by the Red Pueblos Magicos de España network.

Nestled in the heart of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park, Alcala de los Gazules is known for its whitewashed streets, Andalucian architecture and dramatic hilltop views.
Its historic centre is officially listed as a Historic-Artistic Site, with narrow cobbled streets of Andalusian origin overlooked by a medieval castle and its imposing Torre del Homenaje.
With its mix of history, nature and traditional cuisine, organisers say Sabores de 1876 will offer visitors a chance to step back in time while enjoying the flavours that define this historic corner of Cadiz.
