Marbella police have this week launched an inspection campaign of e-scooters and bikes, including along the beach promenade.
Pictures shared by the Policia Local showed officers setting up road blocks and inspecting vehicles.
It said in a post on Facebook: ‘As we announced, we are conducting checks on personal mobility vehicles (PMVs) and bicycles at various points throughout the municipality.
‘For your safety and everyone else’s, please respect the rules.’
In November last year, the councillor for Security in Marbella, Jose Eduardo Diaz, met with police to review a series of priority security measures, including the city’s CCTV network, traffic campaigns and the regulation of personal mobility vehicles.
Police spokesperson Miguel Angel Benitez said one of the main issues discussed was enforcement around personal mobility vehicles (VMP), such as electric scooters.

From this year, these vehicles must have compulsory insurance (SOA).
Benitez confirmed that monitoring will be stepped up to ensure users comply with the regulations.
‘We are going to intensify surveillance to guarantee that users follow the rules, and we are calling on those who use them to circulate responsibly,’ he said.
Police will also reinforce checks on public transport mobility cards, working alongside concessionaire Avanza to ensure proper use of the system and improve the efficiency of the municipal transport network.
The Local Police also announced plans to expand opening hours at the Citizen Assistance Office in San Pedro Alcantara, introducing both morning and afternoon services to improve access for residents.
In addition, patrols will be increased in the San Pedro industrial estate in an effort to prevent illegal dumping of rubble and construction waste.
