Researchers are studying an 82-year-old Spaniard after discovering he has the body of a 30-year-old.
Juan Lopez revealed he is being analysed by experts while appearing on the Spanish TV show Y Ahora Sonsoles on Antena 3.
He said several universities are attempting to understand how he has defied the normal effects of ageing.
It comes after tests revealed he retains 77% of his muscle mass, a figure typically seen in someone aged around 30.
‘A good part of it is genetic,’ he said, ‘But it’s also training.’
Lopez took up long-distancing running at the incredibly-late age of 66 and continues to train every day.
What began as a personal outlet quickly became a passion and the results have been extraordinary.
In 2024, he was crowned European marathon champion in the M80 category. A year later, in 2025, he broke the world record for the 50km distance – achievements that would be formidable for athletes decades younger.

Lopez credits consistent physical activity and a conscious, healthy diet for his vitality. But there is another motivation behind his relentless training regime – the love he has for his wife.
He says he wants to stay strong and independent for as long as possible, so that he can continue caring for her in the years ahead.
