Storm Kristin has sparked chaos across Malaga province after uprooting trees and causing multiple rivers to burst their banks.
Ronda, the Costa del Sol and the Axarquia are among the worst hit areas, with local officials monitoring river flows over fears of flooding.
Trains were suspended on the Bobadilla–Algeciras line between Jimena and Castellar after several tree trunks fell across the tracks. Similar problems were reported on the Antequera–Cordoba line near Puente Genil.
The MA-8302 road has also been closed after falling trees, rockfalls and the overflow of the Almarchal river.
In Nerja, the Chillar river has completely burst its banks and was filmed connecting with the sea.
In Rincon de la Victoria, footage showed parts of the beach being ‘eaten’ by the sea, with similar scenes recorded in Algarrobo Costa.
In the Serrania de Ronda, residents have reported power cuts and mobile phone outages, with restoration work under way.
As a result, the town of Genalguacil has once again been cut off, amid widespread incidents caused by strong winds in the western Costa del Sol and the Genal Valley.
The town’s mayor, Miguel Angel Herrera, said Genalguacil is isolated both towards Jubrique and down towards Estepona, with several residents unable to reach or leave their rural properties.
He fumed that he has been raising concerns for months about the poor condition of roadside trees.
In Torrox, strong winds have torn down shop signs, lampposts, trees and street furniture.
The Costa del Sol was last night upgraded to an orange-level warning, in place today until 3pm for strong winds, heavy rain and coastal conditions.
The most severe alerts affect the Serrania de Ronda, where rainfall of up to 80 litres per square metre and gusts of up to 90 km/h are forecast.
Along the coast, winds of up to 90 km/h are expected, particularly near the Strait of Gibraltar.
In Marbella, several roads and tunnels have been closed off due to rising water, including by the La Cañada shopping centre.
All parks remain closed in the city as countless trees continue to be uprooted by the harsh winds.
