A builder has died in Sevilla after a heavy panel fell on top of him while working during Storm Kristin on Wednesday.
The fatal accident happened at around 12.55pm at the Palmas Altas Technology and Business Park, amid an orange alert for strong winds.
According to the 112 emergency service, health officials first raised the alarm after receiving a call about a worker who had been struck by a panel at the site.
Witnesses reported that the man had been left trapped under the structure.
Following the alert, the authorities deployed firefighters, Policia Nacional officers, workplace risk prevention teams and labour inspectors.
Paramedics were sent to the scene but could only confirm the man’s death.
Trade union Comisiones Obreras has claimed the worker had been instructed to carry out a task that should have been done by machinery.
That machinery’s performance had been severely affected by mud caused by days of heavy rain.
The union also pointed out that the incident occurred on a particularly dangerous day for outdoor work, with Spain’s weather agency Aemet having issued an orange warning for strong winds.
