An expat bricklayer has died after falling from a roof while working in Alicante.
The fatal incident occurred in San Fulgencio at around 9.30am on Tuesday, and is being investigated as a workplace accident.
It came as the region was under a weather alert from state weather agency Aemet due to the passing of Storm Joseph.
San Fulgencio was being warned of strong winds of up to 90km/hr.
The incident took place in San Fulgencio’s industrial park. The Bulgarian worker was on the roof when a sheet of asbestos cement roofing covering one of the openings gave way, causing him to fall six metres.
He suffered a severe head injury upon impact and could not be saved by paramedics.
There is no evidence at this time that the severe weather was a factor in the builder’s death.
The accident occurred at a gourmet seafood restaurant located on Isla Mallorca Street in the Las Moras industrial park.
According to municipal sources, the City Council is now verifying whether the company has the necessary operating licence.
The investigation is being conducted by the Guardia Civil in Almoradi.
