Spain’s food safety watchdog has issued an alert over an infant formula sold widely across the country.

The alert comes from the Agencia Española de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutrición (AESAN), which received a warning from France via the RASFF network.

The alert concerns a possible presence of cereulide, a toxin that can cause digestive problems such as vomiting and diarrhoea, in two products from the Damira baby formula range.

The affected products are:

DAMIRA NATUR 1: Lot number: 8000003307; Best before: 19/02/2027; Size: 800g; Storage: ambient temperature.

DAMIRA NATUR 2: Lot number: 8000003302; Best before: 29/01/2027; Size: 800g; Storage: ambient temperature.

The issue was detected through the company’s own internal controls and reported to authorities in line with food safety regulations, to prevent unsafe products reaching consumers.

AESAN has already passed the information on to regional authorities via Spain’s rapid alert system (SCIRI) to ensure the affected batches are removed from sale.

Anyone who has these specific products at home is advised to throw them away and to not give them to their infants.

All other batches of the Damira brand are considered safe.
