A British sex offender has been arrested in Alicante after going on the run following his conviction.
The 41-year-old was tracked down to San Fulgencio, a town hugely popular with the expat community.
The offender was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the UK.
According to reports, he had fled Britain after being sentenced to life imprisonment for sexual assault offences committed between 2014 and 2015.
The international arrest warrant was circulated via Interpol after investigators believed the fugitive may have been hiding in Alicante province.
Following investigative work, Spanish officers were able to trace the suspect to San Fulgencio. A police operation was launched and he was located and arrested without incident.
After completing the relevant police procedures, the detainee was brought before the Audiencia Nacional, which is responsible for handling extradition proceedings.
He now awaits transfer through the formal extradition process to the UK.
San Fulgencio is home to a large foreign population, particularly in residential developments such as La Marina and El Oasis.
Of the town’s roughly 9,500 registered residents, more than 65% are foreign nationals, with around 3,500 believed to be British.
In October 2025, officers detained two German nationals in the same municipality who were also wanted by authorities in their home country.
