An Irish tourist has blasted ‘tyrants’ running a Marbella car park after they blocked his car off with rubbish bins following a row about his bill.
Andy Murray shared footage online showing the moment his white Tesla was prevented from leaving the site.
‘Bit of an interesting story here,’ Andy wrote in the caption, ‘and I since found out car parks in Marbella Spain are an absolute rip off run by tyrants.’
In the video, Andy claimed that upon arriving at the car park at 11.59pm on December 30, he believed he was told that the rate was €1.60 per hour.
However, upon collecting his vehicle at 11.30am on December 31, he was told to pay just over €70 – meaning it was more than €6 per hour, with Andy refusing to pay.
‘So when I tried to leave, this f***er decided to block me,’ he said, with footage showing an employee wheeling a large bin container in front of Andy’s path.
‘I told him this wasn’t the agreement, that you told me €1.60 when I arrived… it was obviously a language barrier issue, but you want to see how extremely aggressive they got…’
The workers called the police and when an officer arrived, Andy told him he was ‘being held hostage until he paid their ransom’.
Andy said he eventually paid the €70, and was told that if he wanted to make a police report for alleged damage against his car he should make a report with the Policia Nacional ‘because they speak English’.
He vowed to make a report over the phone and have a friend who lives locally sign on his behalf.
The car park is managed by a company called Cost Invest, which has its rates available online.
At its Park Plaza Suites car park in Puerto Banus, for example, 15 minutes cost €3, jumping to €5 for 35 minutes and €5.75 for an hour.
