A woman has been found dead on a Costa del Sol beach.
The grisly discovery was made on La Caleta beach in Malaga city in the early morning of Saturday (December 27).
The body was discovered on the shoreline by fishermen, who immediately alerted the Policía Nacional.
According to sources at the provincial police headquarters, the woman appeared to be around 60 years old.
Emergency medical services were also dispatched to the scene, but were unable to save her.
Shortly before 9am, police officers notified the 112 after locating a woman who was unresponsive on the beach along Paseo Pablo Ruiz Picasso, near a breakwater.
Officers from the Policía Local and paramedics from the 061 emergency medical service attended the location and were only able to certify the woman’s death.
At this stage, police have not confirmed whether the body showed any signs of violence, nor has the woman’s identity been released.
Once the death was confirmed, the judicial authorities were notified.
