A double murderer has been arrested in Andalucia after being named on Spain’s ’10 most wanted’ list.
Jose Maria Pavon Pereira had been sentenced to 41 years in prison for the two killings carried out in 2019 – one of them involving ‘extreme cruelty’.
Policía Nacional said the fugitive had been living in hiding inside an industrial unit on the outskirts of Cartaya, Huelva, away from the town centre.
Officers arrested him as he was leaving the premises in a vehicle, an operation captured in images later shared by the force on social media.
The investigation dates back to 2024, when a judicial warrant was issued for his arrest following the discovery of two bodies in a well in Huelva.
One victim had been shot in the chest with a shotgun, while the other had suffered multiple fatal injuries inflicted with a blunt object.

After exhausting several lines of inquiry, police decided to include Pavon Pereira in their ‘ten most wanted’ campaign in order to appeal for public assistance.
Officers say citizen cooperation proved decisive, with key information received through the dedicated email address set up for the campaign.
That tip-off led investigators to the industrial unit where the suspect was hiding.
After surveillance, officers stopped a vehicle leaving the site, identified the occupant as the fugitive and proceeded with the arrest.
Police highlighted that three of the ten most-wanted fugitives have now been located in just one month since the campaign was launched.
Those on the list are sought for serious offences including murder, sexual assaults on minors, drug trafficking, human trafficking and violent robbery.
