A man has been found dead inside his home in the Costa del Sol town of Nerja.
The body was discovered on Tuesday (December 23), at a property on Calle San Francisco, according to official sources quoted by Europa Press.
Emergency services were alerted at around 9.30pm after a member of the public contacted the 112 number.
Paramedics from the 061 health service were sent to the address and confirmed the death of a 48-year-old man at the scene.
The Guardia Civil subsequently activated the standard police protocol.
Officers have said they are awaiting the forensic report before determining the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
While the investigation remains open, initial indications suggest the death could be linked to faulty combustion from a heater, though this has not yet been confirmed and will depend on the findings of the post-mortem examination.
