The body of a missing British resident has been found three months after she vanished from her home in Almeria.
Geraldine, 73, vanished from the hamlet of El Contador in Chirivel, on September 17, sparking a frantic search by her now-grieving husband and friends.
Her body was found last week just over two kilometres from the A-92N highway, near the village of Las Vertientes de Cullar in Granada.
Chirivel Town Hall announced the discovery in a statement, expressing its sorrow at the ‘sad news of the death’ of Geraldine.
Sources from the 112 emergency hotline confirmed they received a call around 9am on December 5 from road maintenance, alerting them to the discovery of a woman’s body.
‘On behalf of the entire municipal corporation and our municipality, we express our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones during this time of immense grief,’ the City Council stated on its social media accounts.
The autopsy will reveal the cause of death of the woman, who was initially identified by her appearance and clothing. Her body, located by a roadside ditch, was hidden by vegetation.

The council called for the ‘utmost respect for the family’ and expressed its gratitude for ‘the understanding and support of all citizens’ who, in recent weeks, joined the search for Geraldine in teams and within a radius of more than four kilometers around the town centre.
Helicopters, drones, specialised dogs, and the Granada mountain rescue team also participated in the search.
Geraldine, who had a mild intellectual disability, disappeared on the night of September 17 after leaving her home to feed some cats and not returning.
Her husband reported her missing around 11am the following day, after realising she had not returned home.
