An Irishman has avoided jail after being found with an unregistered gun at his home in Marbella – alongside a silencer and 100 rounds of ammunition.
The unnamed man was sentenced to one year and one day in prison by the Provincial Court of Malaga.
The sentence was suspended on the condition he does not reoffend within three years.
He was also banned from owning or carrying weapons for five years.
The court ordered the destruction of the seized weapon, silencer and ammunition.
According to the ruling, officers uncovered a Grand Power pistol with its serial number removed, in full mechanical working order and capable of both semi-automatic and automatic fire.
The weapon was chambered for 9x17mm ammunition and came with a 15-round magazine.
Police also located a silencer and more than 100 cartridges, all in good condition. Two of the rounds were of a semi-jacketed hollow-point type.
The items were seized during a court-authorised search on 16 June 2020, ordered by Marbella’s Court of Investigation No. 3.
