Malaga’s most iconic shopping street (Calle Larios) has switched on its famous Christmas lights.
The installation, titled Natividad de luz, honours the birth of Jesus and is accompanied by the traditional sound-and-light show.
The grand switch-on on Friday November 28 at 6.30pm was met with a roar of cheers and applause from the thousands gathered in the streets below.
The honour of switching on the lights this year fell to the cast of Imagine, a production by Merlín Producciones and SOHRLIN Andalucia, who pressed the button to officially open Malaga’s Christmas festivities.
The performers of Imagine, including the characters Señor Imagine and the staff of Hotel Imagine, ‘arrived’ on the street through a dramatic portal as part of a special staging designed exclusively for the launch.
The show, created by Domingo Merlin and Antonio Banderas and currently running at SOHRLIN Andalucia, blends storytelling with music, performance and artistic innovation.
Showtimes for the Christmas season
After Friday’s premiere, the Larios light show will run daily until January 4.
On December 24 and 31 and January 5, the lights will remain on but without music.
As in previous years, there will be three evening shows each day, at 6.30pm, 8.30pm and 10pm.
The general lighting timetable for the city will be:
Sunday to Wednesday: 6:30pm – 12:00am
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and holiday eves: until 2am

Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve: lights remain on until 6am
The 2025 design replaces previous arches with a scheme built around large illuminated medallions, which will pulse in sync with the music to create a choreographed visual display.
In total, the installation includes 16 stars, 32 side columns, and 32 radiant streaks.
