Marbella’s iconic Pub Charles will cease to be a bar when it reopens, the Spanish Eye can reveal.
The emblematic business had served locals, expats and tourists in the heart of San Pedro de Alcantara for more than 40 years.

But it struggled in recent times after its founder Jesus Leal Miguel stepped down from his managerial role.
Jesus, who owns the building, told this paper how he found it ‘difficult’ to find ‘competent’ people to run it.
In August, he was optimistic that he had found ‘the right people’ and said it would re-open ‘within a month or so’.

However, those plans have fallen through, and he confirmed today that the new lease holders will be opening a chinese shop or an ‘asian supermarket’.
Pub Charles, in its heyday, was the place to be on any given night in San Pedro.
Much like the famous Alfredo’s restaurant next door, it was one of the last remaining businesses with links to the old school Marbella.
‘It’s absolutely devastating,’ one British expat told this paper upon hearing the news.
‘I know it hasn’t been what it was recently but we were hopeful that it would have a come back.’
