EXCLUSIVE: Hope for Marbella’s iconic Pub Charles as owner finds new management

Much like the famous Alfredo’s restaurant next door, it is one of the last remaining businesses with links to the old school Marbella.

For more than 40 years, Pub Charles was THE place to be on any given night in Marbella’s San Pedro de Alcantara.

Much like the famous Alfredo’s restaurant next door, it is one of the last remaining businesses with links to the old school Marbella.

But ever since its founder Jesus Miguel Leal stepped down from management duties a few years ago, it has struggled to hold onto its loyal customers.

The new owners’ refurbs removed much of the venue’s soul while the cocktail menu – previously excellent – was reduced.

‘It’s been very difficult to find good people to run it,’ Jesus admitted to the Spanish Eye this week.

‘But I think I have now found the right person to take control of Pub Charles.’

Jesus said the establishment will undergo renovation and exterior improvements.

‘Within a month or six weeks it will be open to the public,’ he said.

The pillar of the San Pedro community added that many businesses in Marbella have struggled this summer compared to 2024.

‘I’ve spoken to many bars and restaurants who say they are up to 30% down compared to last year,’ he said.

He believes taxes and costs are too high, while people are generally spending less money.

He added that the anti-tourism protests are ‘silly’, saying: ‘I’m totally against the protests, the more people who come here the better.

‘We need to keep them coming, there was a noticeable drop in July.’
