Nine forest fires have been stabilised following an intense and difficult night for firefighters in Andalucia.

There were at least 10 fires being battled across the region on Friday, with hot and dry weather accompanied by strong winds creating the perfect conditions for flames to take hold.

As of Saturday morning, nine of the 10 fires are reported to have been stabilised or controlled, with just one in Villanueva de la Concepcion, in inland Malaga, still active.

It comes after dozens of homes were evacuated on Friday following the outbreak of a forest fire Algeciras.

The flames began in a roadside ditch along the CA-9208, a route linking to the El Cobre neighbourhood, close to the Cava stream and Botafuegos prison.

Driven by strong westerly winds, the fire prompted the precautionary evacuation of nearby homes.

Emergency protocols were activated amid fears it could spread to properties and crucial road networks.

Fortunately, with the help of aircraft, the inferno was stabilised overnight and is expected to be brought under control.

Meanwhile, another forest fire took hold in Alora in inland Malaga late on Friday night.

Footage shared on X showed a hilltop in El Aljibe lit up by a snaking fire, while black smoke filled the air.

However, by 1.10am, the blaze was reported to be ‘controlled’ by the Infoca fire service.

The causes of both fires remain under investigation.
